Troye Sivan’s “FF” video is here, and the Australian pop star has handed the spotlight to a Swedish actor you’ve probably watched without knowing his name. Dropped on October 9 as the third and final single from Sivan’s fourth studio album She’s the Best, the clip stars Felix Mayr as Sivan’s blonde love interest, and it is every bit as steamy as the singer promised.
The “She’s the Best” era
This is the back half of one of Sivan’s most deliberate album rollouts. The title track kicked things off as an homage to the strong women in his life, its video drawing guest appearances from Nicole Kidman and drag star Sasha Colby. Second single “Party” turned the dial toward sexual liberation. Through it all, his best friend and longtime collaborator Leland has been a constant presence, co-writing every song on the record.
What happens in the “FF” video
Directed by Sivan’s longtime collaborator Gordon von Steiner and filmed at a beach house on Fire Island, the video is a hazy portrait of queer romance. Sivan and Mayr kiss on the sand, trade tender moments indoors, and end up in a steamed-up shower. Days before release, Sivan warned fans on X that he had “somehow made the gayest music video of my career”. He was not exaggerating: the clip places gay intimacy at the center of a glossy mainstream pop release, no coding, no hedging.
From teaser to cultural moment
The hype was deliberate. On October 7, two days before release, Sivan posted on X that he had “somehow made the gayest music video of my career”, then doubled down with “Like this is GAY gay”. He had spent the rollout teasing fans with thirst traps and even joking that he considered joining OnlyFans for the era. The early verdicts suggest the confidence was justified: the album is drawing some of the strongest reviews of his career, and the “FF” clip has traveled far beyond his core fanbase, picked up by music press and LGBTQ+ outlets alike.
A love song to someone who isn’t here yet
The title is short for “Fuck Forever”, but Sivan has been clear it isn’t a vow. It’s a wish. The song is about wanting someone who hasn’t arrived yet: imagining a future relationship with a man he has not met and turning the loneliness of waiting into something euphoric. “It might sound like a vow, but it’s really a wish,” he said in a statement provided to JustJared, calling it “an undying love song to a man I don’t know yet”.
Who is Felix Mayr?
Mayr, 31, has been quietly building one of the more interesting acting resumés of recent years. His first major role came in Netflix’s limited series Unorthodox in 2020. He followed it by going toe-to-toe with Jason Statham in Meg 2: The Trench (2023), and has since appeared in Netflix’s Senna, Hulu’s The Kollective, and Apple’s Hijack. Now he’s the face of one of the season’s most talked-about music videos, giving Sivan’s era its most romantic and vulnerable image yet.
Fire Island, fantasy, and a PrEP moment
The location is doing real work. Fire Island, particularly Cherry Grove and the Pines, has long been tied to LGBTQ+ community and nightlife, and Sivan’s team frames the setting as part of the video’s exploration of desire, connection, and the thrill of possibility. One detail has made its own headlines: Sivan takes a PrEP pill by MISTR in the bathroom, a casual, normalized nod to safer sex that arrived alongside the brand’s second annual National PrEP Day event at The Abbey in West Hollywood, where Leland DJ’d. The video and the album both landed on October 9, closing out the She’s the Best singles run. Sivan has described this era as some of his strongest work, and judging by the reaction to “FF”, the public seems inclined to agree. Sweden will be watching Mayr’s next move closely.
